Abstract

PURPOSE: To invariably indicate the weight of load by mounting a measuring element of the strain gauge to the member adapted to cause a strain subject to the load in construction in such a manner that te needle of the meter swings in response to changes in the resistance value of the measuring element.
CONSTITUTION: The measuring element 3 of the strain gauge is stuck on the top of the upper most portion of the leaf spring 1. A resistance foil is applied on the thin insulating paper and the lead wires 3a and 3b are connected at both ends thereof. Any deflection on the leaf spring 1 changes the resistance value between the lead wires 3a and 3b. Therefore, it is so adjusted that the leaf spring 1 becomes zero in the output when unloaded, and thus, the meter 8 swings with the balance being lost when the spring is loaded. As the meter 8 indicates the level of strain, the preliminary measurement of the relation between the strain level and the load allows the indication of the weight of the load.
