Abstract

PURPOSE: To catalytically oxidize SO2 in a gas at a low temp. with high efficiency by using a caralyst free from Al2O3 as a carrier component and contg. a Pt group element and TiO2 in a predetermined percentage.
CONSTITUTION: When SO2 in a gas is catalytically oxidized, a catalyst containing a Pt group element and TiO2 is used. The TiO2 content is ≥about 70wt% of the total amount of the catalyst, and Al2O3 is not contained as a carrier component. The Pt group element content is preferably 0.01W2wt% of the total amount of the catalyst. As the Pt group element one or more among Pt, Rh, Ru and Pd are used preferably. The reaction temp. is preferably 300W450°C.
