Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound which is a synthetic intermediate for medicines,etc. simply at a low cost, by reacting a phenylacetyl halide with a 2-halomethyl 3-halo-1-propene, and cyclizing the reaction product through the dehydrohalogenation.
CONSTITUTION: A phenylacetyl halide of formula I (X is halogen) is reacted with a 2-halomethyl-3-halo-1-propene of formula II at a molar ratio betwen the former and the latter of 1:1W5, preferably in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst, e.g. AlCl3, and/or an inert solvent, e.g. methylene dichloride, to give compounds of formulas III and/or IV, which are then cyclized with a dehydrohalogenating agent, e.g. pyridine or triethylamine, through the dehydrohalogenation and esterified in the presence of a carboxylic acid under heating to afford the aimed furan substitution product of formula V.
USE: Particularly a component constituting stnthetic pyrethroid insecticides.
