Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture a hollow torsion bar of low weight and improved rigidity and strength for a vehicle, by integrally providing thick secured portions at both the ends of a hollow pipe and coating the peripheral surface of the pipe with FRP or the like except on the secured portions. CONSTITUTION:Hexagonal secured portions 2 larger than the outside diameter of a hollow pipe 3, which constitutes a hollow torsion bar 1, is integrally provided at both the ends of the bar 1. A thick portion 3a, whose thickness varies smoothly and continuously to the hollow pipe 3 and the secured portions 2 and in which stress concentrates, is provided. The peripheral surface of the hollow pipe 3 except for the secured portions 2 is coated with reinforced plastic 4 such as FRP. This results in providing the hollow torsion bar 1 of reduced weight and improved rigidity and strength.
