Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the weight of the titled rod by a method wherein an endless fibrous reinforced plastic member having sufficient tensile strength is applied to the outer peripheral surfaces of bearing members and a rod-like member. CONSTITUTION:The bearing members 5 and 6 fitted in the ends 2 and 3 having a small and a large diameter respectively of the connecting rod 1 are formed of ferrous bushes imparted with antiabrasive properties by heat treatment and the non-bendable rod-like member 7 in a rod section of the connecting rod 1 is formed of a metallic or plastic composite material. Further, the endless tensile force resist out fibrous reinforcing plastic member 6 is applied on the outer peripheral surfaces of the bearing members 5 and 6 and on the outer peripheral surface of th rod-like member extending parallel to the axes of the bearing members 5 and 6. Consequently, it becomes possible to reduce sharply the weight of the connecting rod as compared to the conventional connecting rod manufactured by forging a carbon steel material used for forming a mechanical structure.
