Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture a sintered body for a tool of high performance by bringing starting material powder including a specified metallic carbide or nitride and a specified metal into contact with a superhard alloy as a base material and carrying out hot pressing under superhigh pressure to sinter the hard member and joint it to the base material at the same time.
CONSTITUTION: Powder of a IVa or VIa group metallic carbide or nitride such as TiC or TiN having ≤1μm particle size is mixed with powder of a VIa group metal such as Mo or W having ≤1μm particle size in a prescribed ratio. This mixed starting material powder is brought into direct contact with a superhard alloy as a base material or mixed powder of WC and Co forming the superhard alloy. By hot pressing them under pressure satisfying σ≥10-2×G when the modulus of rigidity of the hard substance is considered to be G and the hot pressing pressure to be σ, the hard substance is sintered, and simultaneously it is joined to the base material. Thus, a sintered body for a tool having a ≥0.1mm thick hard sintered body bonded to the base material is obtd. The hard sintered body contains a high m.p. metallic phase by 5W40 atomic%, no iron group metallic binding phase and ≤0.5% oxygen as an impurity.
