Abstract
PURPOSE: A catalyst composed of a component obtained by treating a homogeneous solution containing a specific magnesium compound and a titanium compound in a specific proportion with a halogenated silicon compound and of an organoaluminum compound is used to produce the titled polymer with narrow molecular weight distribution, high strength and high dimensional stability.
CONSTITUTION: When a homogeneous hydrocarbon solution containing (b) a magnesium compound of Mg(OR2)mX2 2-m (R2 is hydrocarbon; X2 is halogen; m is 1, 2), (c) a titanium compound of Ti(OR3)nX3 4-n (R3 is hydrocarbon; X3 is halogen; n is 1, 2, 3) and, when necessary, (d) a hydroxy compound of R4OH (R4 is hydrocarbon) is treated with (a) a silicon halide of R1 1SiX1 4-1 (R1 is hydrocarbon; X1 is halogen; 0≤l≤2), molar numbers of components b, c, d and a is made to satisfy the equation, when the numbers are expressed with a, b, c, and d respectively, to produce a solid product insoluble in hydrocarbon. (A) The solid product is combined with (B) an organoaluminum compound and the resultant catalyst is used to polymerize an olefin.
