Abstract

PURPOSE: To use of a catalyst mix of a catalyst resulting from the treatment of a specifically weight-composed mixture of titanium tetrachloride, and titanium tetrabromide or tetraiodide with an organoaluminum compound and another organoaluminum compound gives olefin polymers with high stereoregularity in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: Titanium tetrachloride is mixed with 0.005W0.3mole, per mole of the titanium tetrachloride, of titanium tetrabromide or iodide. The mixture is incorporated with an organoaluminum compound as diethylaluminum monochloride, dimethylaluminum monochloride, dinormalpropylaluminum monochloride in the presence of an ether or thioether so that the molar ratio between the titanium in the titanium tetrahalide and the hydrocarbyl groups in the organoaluminum compound becomes 1:0.1W1:50 and the ratio between the ether and the titanium tetrahalide becomes 1:0.05W1:5 to form the titanium trihalide solid catalyst. The resultant catalyst is mixed with an organoaluminum compound in a molar ratio of 1:1W 100, preferably 1:2W400 and the mixture is used for polymerization of olefin as a catalyst.
