Abstract
PURPOSE: To stabilize the titled compound and prevent the decomposition thereof and the corrosion of an article to be cleaned by the synergistic effect of a trialkoxyalkane and a nitroalkane, and if desired, vic-monoepoxide as additives, by using a stabilizer system containing the additives.
CONSTITUTION: 1,1,1-Trichloroethane with low toxicity, useful as an industrial solvent for degreasing and cleaning of iron, aluminum, zinc, copper, etc., and other uses, is stabilized with a stabilizer, e.g. at least one trialkoxyalkane, e.g. trimethoxymethane or triethoxymethane, preferably in an amount of 1W10% based on the weight of the titled compound, simultaneously with at least one nitroalkane preferably in an amount of 0.01W2% based on the weight of the titled compound, to prevent the decomposition thereof on contact with a variety of metals in the vapor or liquid phase, or the corrosion of the metals or further by the addition of vic-epoxide as an assistant stabilizer preferably in an amount of 0.001W2% based on the weight of the titled compound to the above system for more increased stability.
