Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the unstableness of welding owing to electric discharge or the like by capturing the metallic ions, vapor or gaseous components produced during electron beam welding near the weld zone and exhausting the same.
CONSTITUTION: A capturing device 5 which captures metallic vapor or the like is provided near the weld zone in a vacuum vessel 2, and the captured metallic vapor or the like are exhausted together with the air in the vessel 2. A small hole 6 which permits the passage of the electron beam 4 from an electron gun chamber 3 but makes the transmission of the metallic vapor or the like difficult is beforehand opened in this device 5. In this way, welding objects are welded by the electron beam 4 past the hole 6. The metallic ions, vapor or the like produced during this time do not enter the chamber 3 and therefore the unstableness of the welding by electric discharge or the like is prevented.
