Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R1 is H, lower alkyl, phenyl lower alkyl, etc.; R2 is pyridyl; A is lower alkylene; X is halogen; n is 0, 1 or 2; the dotted line is single or double bond) and a salt thereof.
EXAMPLE: 5-[3-[4-(2-Pyridyl)piperazinyl]propoxy]-3,4-dihydrocarbostyril.
USE: An antihistaminic agent and a central nervous system depressant.
PROCESS: A compound of formula 2 is reacted with a compound of formula 3 in an inert solvent, e.g. dioxane, or under solventless conditions at room temperature to 200°C to give a compound of formula 4. A basis compound, e.g. K2CO3, is advantageously used as a deacidifying agent. The resultant compound of formula 4 is then reacted with a compound of formula 5 in an inert solvent, e.g. dioxane, or under solventless conditions at room temperature to 200°C, advantageously in the presence of a deacidifying agent, to give the compound of formula 1.
