Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the abnormal condition of a belt such as a vertical crack by detecting a cargo placed on an incoming belt with ultrasonic beams allowed to proceed in the direction of the width of the conveyer belt.
CONSTITUTION: An ultrasonic beam transmitter 9 and an ultrasonic beam receiver 10 are arranged on either side of the incoming part 6B of a conveyer belt 6. Ultrasonic beam B are radiated from the transmitter 9 to the receiver 10 across the conveyer belt 6 in the direction of its width. The ultrasonic beams are being radiated along the upper surface of the incoming conveyer belt 6B right under the part just behind a shoot 4 on the outgoing side 6A of the conveyer belt. Then if a metal piece 5 staying in the shoot part 4 causes the conveyer belt 6 to crack, cargo 3 to be carried falls on the incoming side 6B through a crank 11 and accumulates to obstruct the ultrasonic beams B. As a result, the crack 11 can be detected.
