Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a compact cell and to improve the productionability, by employing a porous hollow string having thin hold the average diameter of which is lower than specific level as the diaphragm for cell. CONSTITUTION:A porous hollow string 1 having thin hold the average diameter of which is lower than 5mu is employed as a cell diaphragm for separating between the positive and negative electrodes. Said string 1 has the outer diameter in the range of 0.02-5mm. preferably 0.1-2mm., the wall depth in the range of 5-100mu preferably 10-50mu, the average diameter of the thin hole is 5mu preferably in the range of 0.01 -1mu. while such material as polyolefin, polytetrafluoroethylene is used. One of the electrodes such as negative electrode of zinc needle, for example, is inserted into said holow string 1 then it is wound around cylindrical porous carbon electrode 3 and immersed into potassium hydroxide solution in a container 4 to produce an air- zinc cell.
