Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an agricultural film having excellent heat-retaining properties and transparency and being suitable for greenhouse, house and tunnel culture, by forming a film of a composition comprising a polyolefin resin and mica powder.
CONSTITUTION: A composition comprising 100pts.wt. polyolefin resin (e.g. low- density, medium-density or high-density PE or PP) and 1W150pts.wt. mica powder (e.g. mica powder having an average particle diameter of about 20W2,000μ which is obtained by mechanically grinding natural mica) is formed to obtain an agricultural film. Said film has excellent heat-retaining properties because it selectively lowers the permeability of infrared rays having a wave length of about 10μ which are radiated by a body having a temperature of 0W50°C, and further said film can restrain decrease in transparency to the minimum. Therefore said film is very useful for greenhouse, house and tunnel culture. As a film containing a large amount of mica has a great infrared screening effect, covering crops with such a film at night can protect the crops from frost.
