Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover a dicarboxylic acid readily an at a low cost, by extracting a dicarboxylic acid with an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent, and then extracting the extracted solvent phase with a dihydric alcohol to transfer the dicarboxylic acid to the alcoholic phase selectively.
CONSTITUTION: A fungus body is removed from a fermentation liquid, and an inorganic acid is added to adjust the pH of the liquid to 4.0 or lower. The free dicarboxylic acid is deposited, and the liquid is brought into contact with a solvent consisting of an aromatic hydrocarbon at 60W100°C to extract the dicarboxylic acid in the aromatic hydrocarbon phase preferentially. The solvent phase is then extracted with a dihydric alcohol at 50W100°C to transfer the discarboxylic acid to the alcoholic phase. The dihydric alcohol phase is directly, or after concentration, subjected to the esterification step for forming a polyester. Succinic, azelaic, 1,10- decanedicarboxylic acid, etc. may be cited as the dicarboxylic acid, and a ≥10C aliphatic dicarboxylic acid is recovered more effectively.
