Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the wear resistance, sound- and vibration-proofing properties of a build-up welded layer by setting the nonmetallic powder feeding position of a spray gun on the lower temp. side of a sprayed flame to uniformly disperse nonmetallic particles in a build-up welded layer when a composite metallic layer contg. nonmetallic powder is build-up welded by melt-spraying. CONSTITUTION:When a build-up welded metallic layer contg. nonmetallic particles is formed on the surface of a metallic material by spraying with a plasma spray gun composed of a tungstem electrode 1 and a nozzle 2 made of copper, a nozzle 3A feeding nonmetallic powder is set on the lower temp. side 6 of a plasma flame 5 30-80mm. away from a nozzle 3 feeding metallic powder. Since the nonmetallic powder has a higher m.p. than the metallic powder and is fed to the plasma flame on the lower temp. side of the flame, it is uniformly dispersed in the sprayed metallic layer without melting to enhance the various characteristics such as wear resistance.
