Abstract
PURPOSE:An optical transmitter whose core part is composed of a specified proportion of SiO2, ZrO2, B2O3, BaO, Na2O and so on, thus having high water resistance, large numerical sperture and low optical loss. CONSTITUTION:An optical transmitter is prepared so that the core part has the following composition in percent by weight: SiO2, 15-40; ZrO2, 8-17; B2O3, 5-15; BaO, 30-45; Na2O, 3-15, as essential components; and additionally at least one selected from GeO2, 0-30; TiO2, 0-3; Al2O3, 0-5; La2O3, 0-5; MgO, 0-5; CaO, 0-7; ZnO, 0-7; SrO, 0-5, Li2O, 0-8; K2O, 0-10; Rb2O, 0-5; Cs2O, 0-8 wherein SiO2+GeO2, 15-50; Zr2O+BaO, 38-55; Na2O+Li2O+ K2O+Rb2O+Cs2O, 5-15 and MgO+CaO+ZnO+SrO+TiO2+Al2O3+La2O3, 0-12.
