Abstract
PURPOSE: A strain in Candida which can oxidize straight-chain hydrocarbons into mono- and dicarboxylic acids simultaneously is inoculated and cultured in a medium containing straight-chain hydrocarbons to produce straight-chain, saturated mono- and dicarboxylic acids simultaneously in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: A strain in Candida which can oxidize straight-chain hydrocarbons into mono- and dicarboxylic acid simultaneously such as Candida tropicalis is inoculated in a medium containing straight-chain hydrocarbons of 11W18 carbon atoms and cultured aerobically. Or previously the strain is cultured in a medium containing the carbon source the strains can assimilate, then the reaction of the culture mixture with the straight-chain hydrocarbon is effected aerobically in a solution. After the cultivation or reaction, the formed mono- and dicarboxylic acids are collected together or isolated respectively by a usual method.
