Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the degradation in mechanical strength owing to a change in metallic structure by injecting cooling air around a cylinder from an air nozzle.
CONSTITUTION: An air nozzle unit 10 is inserted into a cylinder C, and an engine block B is placed on the hearth 21 of a heater 20, whereby it is heated. When pressure air is supplied from a duct 14 into a nozzle 12 during this heating process, the cooling air ejects from injection holes 11, and the air flows between the cylinder C and the nozzle 12 and surely cools the periphery of the cylinder C to maintain it at low temp. although the skirt part S having a fractured part Z is heated on the hearth 21. After the fractured part has attained the prescribed temp., the block B is removed from the hearth 21, and is repaired by welding. In order to remove the stresses generated in the repair part, the unit 10 is again mounted in the cylinder C, is placed on the hearth 21 and is reheated. In this process, too, the cooling air is supplied. After the heating process, the block B is removed from the hearth 21 and is air-cooled to complete the repair.
