Abstract

PURPOSE:To make medium contrast recording of a picture image possible and prevent ground stains of a character by laser-recording the picture image by pulse number or pulse width modulation, and laser-recording the character by binary densities, in the case of recording the picture image and character with a laser. CONSTITUTION:Laser beam 6 from a semiconductor laser 1 goes through optical systems 2-4 and is scanned and recorded in recording paper 5. The picture image and character input signal 9 is digitized by an AD converter 11. This signal is changed over to a digital value conversion circuit 17 in the case of picture image information and to a comparator 33 in the case of character information by the change-over signal 16 in a switching circuit 15. The picture image information is converted to the pulse width modulating signal 28 and the pulse number modulating signal 30, which are inputted to a laser driving circuit 32. In the case of the character information, the character signal pulses 35 are latched in a latch circuit 36 and are inputted to the driving circuit 32.
