Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the conversion efficiency of an organic carbon sample into the carbon dioxide and thus increase the precision of measurement, by providing a means to supply the steam in an oxidation reaction route of the sample and then converting the carbon produced by the thermal decomposition of some organic matter into the carbon dioxide. CONSTITUTION:The measuring device 1 includes the detection route 8 containing the carrier gas supply part 2, steam supply part 3, sample introducing part 4, etc. and the measurement route containing the measuring/recordIng part 9 connected to the detection part 7. The steam supply part 3 is connected with a steam generator such as a boiler, etc. The oxidation oven 6 is filled with the copper oxide 11 kept at e.g. 800 deg.C or so by the heater 10. The part 9 comprises the measurement part 12 where the concentration of carbon dioxide is measured based on the detection signal supplied from the detector 7 for ionization of hydrogen flame and the recording part 13 where the measured value is recorded. In such constitution, the residual carbon quantity can be reduced to ensure a high precision of measurement.
