Abstract
1362003 Analysis of samples containing radio-active isotopes GYOGYSZERKUTATO INTEZET and KOZPONTI KEMIAI KUTATO INTEZET 14 Sept 1971 [14 Sept 1970] 42809/71 Heading G1B The radio-activity of <SP>14</SP>C labelled substances is measured by combusting the sample in chamber 2 in an atmosphere of oxygen which has been provided from e.g. electrolysis of water in cell 7. Excess oxygen is converted into water vapour in a metal-metal oxide catalyst reactor 3 by reduction with hydrogen also produced from cell 7. The water vapour is condensed at 4 and the <SP>14</SP>C containing gases e.g. Co 2 are flushed with a hydrocarbon carrier gas e.g. propane-butane, to radio-activity detector unit 5 and recorder 6. The catalyst may be copper, iron, nickel, cobalt, manganese chromium and/or vanadium with the appropriate oxides. The operation may be automatically programmed Fig. 2 (not shown).
