Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the intergranular corrosion resistance and corrosion resistance of a steel sheet coated with an Mg-contg. Zn alloy by hot dipping by adding a little Al to a composition for the sheet. CONSTITUTION:This Zn alloy for a hot dipping composition contains 0.1-2.0% Mg and <=0.01% Al or further contains 0.01-1.0% Sn or 0.001-0.1% Si as alloying elements. The addition of Al inhibits the growth of an Fe-Zn alloy layer and prevents deterioration in the adhesion. The oxidation of the hot dipping bath is also prevented. Such a fixed amount of Sn or Si forms an intermetallic compound together with Zn and Mg and has an effect of preventing discoloration.
