Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide crystallized glass having a high coefft. of thermal expansion, dense crystal structure and superior mechanical strength, contg. nepheline as the principal crystal phase, and having a special composition contg. TiO2 and ZrO2 as nuclei forming agents besides Na2O, Al2O3 and SiO2.
CONSTITUTION: The crystallized glass contains, by wt., 97% in total of 30W40% SiO2, 20W33% Al2O3, 20W30% Na2O, 0W10% K2O (20W32% Na2O+K2O), 0.5W 4% ZrO2, 1.1W3% TiO2 (2W7% ZrO2+TiO2), 0W12% ZnO and 0W1% B2O3. The glass is manufactured as follows: a batch of starting materials prepared in said composition range is melted, molded into the desired shape, and crystallized by heat treatment. The principal crystal phase of the crystallized glass is nepheline (Na2O. Al2O3.2SiO2), and TiO2 and ZrO2 are precipitated by a small amount. The glass has ≥130×10-7/°Ccoefft. of thermal expansion at 30W500°C.
