If the level of input signal S1 is beyond the range where AGC of the AGC circuit is exercisable or increases suddenly, control signal S3 of gain control circuit 1 is saturated at a maximum value liminted by a circuit power voltage, etc. The detecting circuit detects the saturated control signal being beyond the avairable range of AGC, the switching of gate circuit 7 is controlled by output S6 of circuit 5 to prevent an excessive output signal entering the next stage of the AGC circuit.
