Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a variety of antioxidants, etc., advantageously and in high yield, by the reaction of a substituted-2-hydroxy aromatic ketone with hydrogen peroxide and an alkali in a heterogeneous solvent system of an organic solvent and water, in the presecne of a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A substituted-2-hydroxy aromatic ketone expressed by formula I (n is 1W4; R is H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxyl, phenyl, phenoxy, etc.; (R)n may be the same or different when n is 2W4; A is alkyl, phenyl, etc.) is reacted with hydrogen peroxide and an alkali, in a heterogeneous solvent system of a water-insoluble organic solvent, preferably benzene or toluene, and water, in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. tetraethylammonium chloride, generally in an amount of 1/100W the same based on the raw material compound expressed by formula I.
