Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title compounds which are useful as intermediates of antioxidants for rubber, etc., at low cost, selectively and in high yield, by the reaction of nitrohaloaromatic compounds and aromatic primary or secondary amines in the presence of a specific compound under specific conditions.
CONSTITUTION: In the production of the title compounds by the reaction of nitrohaloaromatic compounds and aromatic primary or secondary amines in an organic solvent in the presence of a catalyst comprising a) an alkali carbonate and b) copper or a copper compound, at least one kind of c) polyoxyalkylene compounds, particularly crown ethers, etc., and/or halogenated quaternary ammonium compounds, particularly quaternary ammonium chloride or bromide, is further added to said reaction system, preferably in an amount of at least 0.5wt% based on the nitrohaloaromatic compounds. Thereby, the title compounds can be obtained selectively in high yield in a low-cost, non-polar organic solvent such as an aromatic hydrocarbon.
