Abstract

PURPOSE:To discriminate characters securely with simple constitution by magnetizing one end of a sheet with the same polarity in the relative movement direction of a magnetic detector reading characters of font E13B and by discriminating the characters with the detection output of the other polarity from the magnetic detector. CONSTITUTION:Characters 2 of font E13B are printed on sheet 1 in the lengthwise with magnetic ink and when this sheet 1 is moved as shown by arrow 3, they are read out by magnetic read head 4 provided at a fixed position. Prior to this read, one end of sheet 1 is magnetized by magnetic write head 5 with the same polarity. This sheet 1 is moved as shown by arrow through pulleys 11 and 12 provided to belt 10. The magentic variation of characters 2 read by head 4 is converted into an electric signal, which is inputted to polarity detecting circuit 25 to discriminate the polarity, and decoder 29 discriminates the character, thereby discriminating and reading characters with the simple constitution.
