Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the processing velocity for the slip of a small width or the slip containing the small characters written on one line by detecting the width of the slip or varying the paper feed speed according to the maximum number of the characters on one line given by the format of the slip.
CONSTITUTION: Before arrival of slip 201 to the scanning position, the information of the presence or absence of the slip is extracted through sensors 203W205 to detect the width of the slip by slip width detection circuit 206. The detection signal is sent to paper feed driving circuit 207 and sensor driving circuit 211, and circuit 207 controls driving motor 208 according to the width of the given paper. And circuit 211 scans sensor array 210 and then writes the output into buffer memory 213 via binary coding circuit 212 along with reading to character deciding device 214. In this way, the width of slip 201 is detected or the paper feed speed is varied according to the maximum number of the characters on one line given by the format of the slip. Thus the processing velocity can be increased for the slip of a small width or the slip containing the small characters written on one line.
