Abstract

PURPOSE:To elevate a discrimination accuracy of a character, by providing plural times a picture information whose character is in a normal state, to a character discriminating part from a shift register storing the picture information. CONSTITUTION:A two-dimensional sensor 5 provides a picture information whose image has been formed on the photodetecting surface, to a binary circuit 7 through an amplifier 6, and the picture information is made binary in its circuit. Binary signals V0-V12 are applied to a picture buffer 8, and also the binary signal V0-V3 and the binary signals V9-V12 are applied to a left edge length register and a right edge length register 11, respectively. The picture buffer 8 reads out the picture information stored in a line address designated by an address counter 9, to a storage register 13 temporarily by the timing of a read signal REA. The picture information which has been read out through a direction gate 14 by a control signal (a) of a controlling circuit 22 is transferred to a shift register 15. The information relating to the right and left edges, stored in the registers 10, 11 is shifted to the shift register 15 through a normalizing edge length register 12 in order to normalize the picture information.
