Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain titled resin having a high imide group content and good solubility, by controlling the catalytic reaction between an aromatic polycarboxylic acid anhydride and an armoatic polyisocyanate so as to proceed at a low reaction rate, in the production of a polyamide imide resin.
CONSTITUTION: In the production of a polyamide imide resin by reacting (a) an aromatic polyisocyanate such as toluylene diisocyanate or m-phenylene diisocyanate, (b) an aromatic tricaboxylic acid anhydride such as trimellitic anhydride and (c) an armoatic polycarboxylic acid anhydride such as pyromellitic dianhydride, the catalytic reaction between the components (a) and (b) is controlled to proceed slowly. For example, the resin of the purpose is obtained by adding the component (c), in portions, to the reaction system or by masking at least part of the component (a) in the reaction system and then adding the component (c), in portions, to the reaction system after starting the reaction between the components (a) and (b).
