Abstract
PURPOSE:To make cleaning of feed head part thorough and considerably reduce the labor for taking care of the surface of a killed steel ingot by immersing the feed head part of said steel ingot into water. CONSTITUTION:Water 4 is filled in a water tank 2, and a steel ingot 8 is hoised with the tongue arms 6 of a soaking pit crane of a soaking yard, thence only the feeder part of its head part is immersed in the water 4. The immersion of the feeder part in the water is carried out repeatedly each for a few minutes. As the metal in the feeder part is cooled by the immersion in the water, dislocation of the sleeve bricks stuck on the feeder part of the steel ingot 8 progresses successively owing to the impact effect upon the remaining sleeves by the change in thermal expansion at the recuperation. Hence, virtually no sleeve bricks remain in the feeder part of the steel ingot and this necessitates considerably less labor for taking care of the steel ingot, reduces the decrease in the weight of the steel ingot owing the taking care and improves yields.
