Abstract

PURPOSE: To remarkably improve the releasability of slag without deteriorating mechanical properties or weld zones by obtaining a flux containing SiO2, MnO, CaO, MgO, Al2O3, etc. in specified proportion.
CONSTITUTION: A flux that contains 20W60% SiO2, 20W60% MnO, ≤20% CaO, ≤20% MgO, 1W30% Al2O3, ≤20% CaF2, 0.01W4% BaO, and low melting point metals in forms of oxide and fluoride is prepared. The flux contains 0.01W0.2% expressed in terms of low melting point metallic elements, and SiO2/MnO is made to 0.7W2.6. The low melting point metal is Pb and/or Bi. To lessen the tendency lowering impact resistance that is a defect in the time of blending Bi especially as low melting point metal, at least either 30% TiO2 or 0.1W10% FeO is added.
