Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect the displacement of an external object in the absence of contact by supporting the relative positions of an energizing member in the axial direction connecting the two receiving electrodes of a piezoelectric member and the opposing surfaces of the piezoelectric member movably according to the displacement of the external object. CONSTITUTION:When a pulse signal ST of a high duty ratio is applied from a pulse signal generating part 3 to an electrode 20 for energizing, an elastic surface wave by electrostrictive effect is produced in the surface of a piezoelectric member 1 opposing to said electrode 20, and this wave propagates at the velocity of sound toward both directions of receiving electrodes 10A, 10B. When it arrives in the positions of the electrodes 10A, 10B, pulse signals RA, RB are obtainable from the electrodes 10A, 10B by electrostrictive effect. The time difference removed of the effect of the velocity of propagation of the elastic surface wave by being calculated from the distance between the electrodes 10A, 10B, the distances between the electrode 20 for energizing and the electrodes 10A, 10B, the velocity of propagation of the elastic surface wave and the time until the elastic surface wave arrives at the electrodes 10A, 10B is obtained as a relation associated only to the relative positions of said electrode 20 and the receiving electrodes 10A, 10B.
