Abstract

In a stand off cell (1) for ultrasonic transducers it is desirable to reduce signals reflected at the output face (5) which may propagate back to the transducer (2). In this arrangement the output face of a solid stand off is formed with corrugations (6) such that the reflected wave has superimposed on it variations which cause destructive interference. The corrugations preferably take the form of rectangular grooves of equal area spaced by a quarter wavelength of the ultrasound. <IMAGE>
