Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate restrictions of read characters and to read them with a high precision, by transferring character patterns, which are stored in the memory part, to the external device to recognize characters, in the portable character reader by which characters on price tags are read optically. CONSTITUTION:The electric signal obtained by optically reading the character on price tag 2 by portable reader 1 is converted to a character pattern with every one character segmented and is stored in memory part 6 together with the header. When the character pattern cannot be detected due to dirt and so on, it is displayed on display part 10. The operator sees the display to decide characters and inputs keys of keyboard 9 corresponding to the decision result, and the character code corresponding to the signal from keyboard 9 is stored in memory part 6 together with header 1. After reading data of one day, stored character patterns and character codes are transferred together with headers to external device 13 and are recognized and processed.
