Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the correction of result of read-in simply, by correcting the illegible character into correct character, if an illegible character is present when the character is optically read in at the reader. CONSTITUTION:The character is optically scanned at the reader 1, the electric signal in photoelectric conversion is read in and the result is stored in the storage section 4. Further, if the characters having the greater similarity with the read-in character at read-in, i.e., candidate characters are a plurality, and if the difference between the candidate characters is small and difficult from discrimination, they are stored in the section 4 as illegible characters. Further, the result of read-in is displayed on the display section 2, and when no illegible characters are present, the result of read-in is connected to the external storage device or the like. If illegible characters are present, the character pattern 10 and candidate characters 7, 8 are displayed to correct the characters 6 into correct characters. Thus, the trouble seeking the key from the keyboard can be saved, the burden of the operator can be reduced, and the processing speed can be increased.
