Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove the greater part of sticking scales, and to improve a descaling effect of the following pickling process, etc., by reversedly reciprocating a hot rolled steel strip fitted with sticking scales so as to pass through the gap of a couple of rolls. CONSTITUTION:A hot rolled steel strip A covered with sticking scales is bent by the bending rollers 2, 4 so as to generate many fine cracks in the scales covering surface of the strip A. Under this condition, the strip A is sent through the guide rollers 6, 7, 8 to the gap of a couple of rollers 10, 11; after which the strip A is turned back by the guide roller 9 and is again passed through the gap of rollers 10, 11. The strip A travels in the opposite direction at a relative speed twice of the actual traveling speed; hereupon, the layers of surface scales having many fine cracks bite each other and mutually shave off the scales of the counter part so that the amount of scales is greatly diminished. The similar treatment is performed by rollers 14, 15 in order to remove the greater part of scales; after which, the strip A is passed through the pickling tank 19 for removing the remaining scales; hereby, the descaling is effectively accomplished.
