Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable laser oscillation of single mode with high efficiency by forming a pair of electrodes formed on the outer surface of a discharge tube spiral shape having the same axis as the optical axis of the laser, thereby expanding the discharge in the entirety in the discharge tube. CONSTITUTION:A pair of electrodes 2-3, 2-4 are so formed on the outer surface of the discharge tube 1 made of dielectric as to confront spirally at the same axis as the optical axis of the laser. When the discharge voltage is applied from a high frequency power source 4, the discharge 12 is expanded in the entirety of the tube, and the discharge intensity is particularly strengthened at the center, and the part where no discharge exists is eliminated as the conventional one. Accordingly, it is not necessary to use an aperture. Thus, the laser oscillation of single mode can be conducted extremely efficiently.
