Abstract
PURPOSE:To make high frequency discharge in a laser medium uniform, by providing a specified gap between a pair of discharge electrodes, which face each other through a discharge tube, and the surface of the outer part of the discharge tube, and making a high frequency voltage that is given to the outer part uniform even if the discharge tube has error in size. CONSTITUTION:When a high frequency voltage is applied across discharge electrodes 23a and 23b from a high frequency power source 25, gas 22 is discharged at a high frequency and excited, and laser is outputted. An air layer 24 acts as if a capacitor is inserted between the discharge electrodes 23a and 23b. The electrostatic capacitance is distributed approximately uniformly over the entire air layer regardless of the error in size of an outer part 21a of a discharge tube 21. Therefore, the high frequency voltage is imparted to the outer part 21a of the discharge tube approximately uniformly through the air layer. Thus the uniform high frequency discharge in the gas 22 and the efficient laser output are obtained. The central part of the discharge electrode is brought closest to the outer part 21a of the discharge tube. The distance between the outer part 21a and the electrode is made wider as the part of the electrode is approached. Thus the discharge is made uniform.
