Abstract
PURPOSE:To make high-precision measurement possible to improve the steel piece yield, by constituting the range finder so that the condition that the projection angle for the object to be measured is constant is satisfied in scanning of the light beam. CONSTITUTION:Gas laser 2 is installed just above total reflective prism 1 which is arranged in the side of steel piece SP and is a reflective material. The laser beam generated from laser 2 is incident to the horizontal face of prism 1 perpendicularly and is reflected horizontally by the reflection surface and is projected to the opposite side face of steel piece SPO when the horizontal position of prism is changed by driving of step motor 5, the region of laser beam projection on the side face of steel piece SP is changed vertically. That is, the laser beam is scanned vertically on the side face of steel piece SP. Image sensor 4 is provided off to the upper position of condenser lens 3 to receive the reflection beam fromsteel piece SP. Step motor 5 is driven regularly, and the average distance to the side face of steel piece SP is obtained on a basis of data from sensor 4 and displacement meter 6 obtained during this regular driving.
