Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the quenching crack in thin-walled part and enhance toughness by heating the rack tooth part while cooling said part from the inner side by flowing a refrigerant such as water into a through-hole in heating the rack tooth part. CONSTITUTION:A hollow rack shaft 1 is mounted to jigs 2, and the conduits 3, 4 of a refrigerant reflux device are freely removably connected to the respective ends of the through-hole 5 of the rack shaft 1. Here, a refrigerant such as water is flowed from a refrigerant tank 6 storing said refrigerant into the through-hole 5 of the rack shaft 1 by way of a pump 7 and while the rack tooth part is being cooled from the inside, high-frequency current is conducted to an induction coil 8, whereby said part is heated for a prescribed time. Next, cooling water is ejected, whereby said part is hardened.
