Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase tensile strength and impact resistance by making the austenitizing temp. in the shoulder parts of element links higher than the austenitizing temp. in parallel parts in heat treatment of link chains.
CONSTITUTION: A strand of link chain 27 is continuously introduced into the furnace core pipe 14 of a high frequency induction heating furnace 4 in a hardening device 2 by a chain wheel 22, wherein the parallel parts of element links are heated to an Ac3 transformation point or an austenitizing temp. Tγ-H higher than this by a high frequency induction heating coil 7, and the shoulder parts are heated so as to attain an austenitizing temp. Tγ-K higher than Tγ-H. Thence, the chain is quickly cooled in a cooling device 5, and is thereby hardened. Next, it is introduced into the furnace core pipe 14 of an annealing device 3 via a liquid storage tank 19 and a chain wheel 28.
