Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce generation amount of impure gases as well as to improve welding property by using nickel or nickel-copper alloy as a heating filament to open a sealed capsule in order to feeding a definite amount of metal into a tube. CONSTITUTION:A brace 5 of a stem 3 in a fluorescent discharge lamp is provided with a metal ring 7 made of nickel plated iron, and a side of the ring is equipped with a glass capsule 10 in which about 15mg of mercury and argon gas of about 1 atmospheric pressure are sealed. A heating filament 11 made of nickel or nickel- copper alloy is welded to the metal ring 7, so that it can contact with the capsule 10. Mercury is discharged into the tube 2 by heating the heating filament 11 by means of a dielectric heating method and opening the capsule 10. As the heating filament 11 is made of nickel group, welding property is improved; generation amount of gas is reduced, and properties of the discharge lamp can be improved.
