Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the melting capacity for reduced iron, by charging direct-reduced iron at an accelerated speed to the center of an electric furnace together with carrier gas, and by helping the combustion of molten steel bath by burners in the furnace.
CONSTITUTION: For example, an electrode 2 is provided freely ascendably and descendably in vertical direction in front of an electrode holder 1 by means of a supporting means 3. At the front end of the holder 1, burners 7 and an accelerating and charging pipe 6 for the reduced iron is provided freely ascendably and descendably in vertical direction with a supporting means 5 through the supporting means 3 and an insulating material 4 in parallel to the electrode 2. Plural burners 7 are arranged near the circumference of the pipe 6. A carrier gas mixed with powder of reduced iron is charged near the center of the pitch circle of the electrode from the top end of the pipe 6 at an accelerated speed. Necessary combustion gas and cooling water are fed separately to the burners 7 through a beam for ascending or descending the electrode or from the top end of the beam, hereby the combustion of the bath surface of the molten steel 8 near the charging position of the reduced iron is improved. The top ends of the burners are adjusted at positions about 500mm higher than the bath surface.
