Abstract

1384259 Vacuum arc furnaces A FINKL & SONS CO 1 Feb 1972 4695/72 Heading F4B [Also in Division C7] Molten steel is tapped from a melting furnace (10), Fig. 1 (not shown), into a reaction vessel 17 which is located in a vacuum finishing unit 25, the charge being heated by A.C. three-phase electrodes and the desulphurization and deoxidization being carried out by the addition of suitable agents to the charge from chambers 31, 33 and the mixing of these agents, the molten charge and the slag 38 being promoted by passing an inert purging gas through porous plugs 19 and 20. A vacuum conduit is indicated at 29 and a gas conduit at 30.
