Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve thermal efficiency by immersing an electrode into molten steel and heating the molten steel by means of the arc. CONSTITUTION:An electrode, for example, a graphite electrode 3, is immersed in the molten steel 2 in a ladle 1, and the arc 15 is generated between the leading end of the electrode 3 and the molten steel 2. An immersing pipe 11 is provided around the electrode 3 and an inert gas is introduced through a lead-in pipe 9 into the pipe 11. The leading end of the pipe 11 is projected by as much as the length of the arc 15 from the leading end of the electrode 3.
