Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the need for step-cutting and polishing of the cut surface of a plunger for a valve rush adjuster and make it lightweight as well as prolong the life of a punching tool by utilizing drawing.
CONSTITUTION: A hole 3 is made, by punching, in the center of the bottom 1 of a cylinder 2 having a bottom at one end and which is formed by extrusion or cutting. Then, the other end is drawn in order to form the cylinder 2 into a step shape having a tapered shoulder 7 of tapering angle α 20W60°. In this case, the surface roughness of the drawn part 8 of the cylinder is more excellent than that of the cut surface. Then, the end surface and the adjacent circumferential surface are finished into an inverted cone shape 5 by cutting or plastic working. Finally, cold working is applied to form a spherical surface with a hole 9 provided at the tip. It is unnecessary to polish the spherical surface 6 moreover. Because the body becomes thinner as a whole, it is lightweight, and the life of the punching tool is prolonged.
