Abstract
PURPOSE: To assure low-temp. toughness and stabilize penetration beads by limiting the diameter of a welding wire, pulse current, frequency and welding speed in performig one-side welding of steel for low temperature.
CONSTITUTION: Steel for low temperature is subjected to one-side welding under the conditions wherein 3.2W6.4mm diameter (d) of a welding wire, 500W2,000A pulse current, 1W100Hz pulse frequency (f), and V≤f×d(Vcm/min) welding speed V. The reason for limiting the welding conditions lies in that <500A pulse current, the lack of penetration occurs, and ≥2,000A, welding is infeasible in capacity with current welding power supplies. ≤1Hz pulse frequency (f), the penetration beads are unstable, and ≥100Hz, it is not possible to assure low-temp. toughness. The lower limit for the welding wire diameter (d) is for obtaining proper welding current density and melting speed and the upper limit is for handling in wire feeding. In the mean time, the welding speed V is for achievement of sufficient penetration and the formation of stable penetration beads.
