Abstract
PURPOSE:To measure the specific gravity of the electrolyte of a lead storage battery without interrupting electric feed, by preventing air bubbles from entering into a propagation path for an ultrasonic wave, by surrounding the external circumference of the propagation path with a filter having an opening atop. CONSTITUTION:Into lead storage battery 20 consisting of electrodes 17 and 18 with leads 15 and 16 in electrolyte cell 14 and electrolyte 19, such as a solution of sulfuric acid, specific gravity measurement part 2 of ultrasonic aerometer 1 is inserted. Next, oscillation and reception plate 5 emits an ultrasonic wave and then receives an ultrasonic wave reflected by reflecting plate 7 to detect the speed of the ultrasonic wave propagating in propagation path 9, transducer 11 converts it into an electric signal, and converter 4 converts it into the specific gravity of the liquid and displays it. When a measurement of specific gravity is taken during power feed, air bubbles are generated from electrode 17 and 18 surfaces in bulk, but those air bubbles do not enter the propagation path 9 because its outside is surrounded with filter 13. Since filter 13 has opening part 12 atop, an interchange of the liquid between the inside and outside of filter 13 is performed rapidly, so that the device can follow up fluctuation of specific gravity in a short time.
